Circa 1849-1850, 9 1/4", iron pontil. An exceptionally rare and desirable Sarsaparilla from New York City with about two known examples. A very large and impressive bottle in a rich blue color with prominent embossing and a crude rear panel. This particular example was dug in downtown Sacramento in the 1960s and is in as found condition. There is stain on the exterior and interior of the bottle, some very spotty light exterior wear, and a shallow interior open bubble in the base, but no damage or issues. After examining advertisements for this product, it appears that the mold engraver made a mistake and should have embossed it with J.C. Morrison, not I.C. Morrison. The included 1849 advertisement clearly notes that the name J.C. Morrison is embossed on the bottle. The 1840s New York City directories list both John C. Morrison and John C. Morrison Jr. at the 188 Greenwich Street address associated with this product. A study of New York City directories and newspapers suggests that this may be the same John C. Morrison Jr. who arrived in California during the Gold Rush. If so, it would establish a direct connection between this bottle and the John C. Morrison Jr. who later marketed California's famous California Club House Whiskey. Additional research is needed to confirm the relationship. With only about two known examples, this is unquestionably one of the rarest and most important New York sarsaparilla bottles in existence.

Circa 1850s, 7", open pontil. A rare bottle in aqua and possibly unique in this bright green color. A crude bottle with a large open pontil and whittled glass. A small patch of light interior stain one side panel and a tiny radiated potstone about 1/16". Overall a fantastic looking and rare bottle. Jeff Wichmann Collection.

Circa 1850s, 6 5/8", open pontil. Medium blue, with light whittle. An extremely rare Philadelphia medicine with possibly only two known examples in this large 6 5/8" size. Produced for T. Morris Perot & Co., one of Philadelphia's leading 19th-century wholesale drug and pharmaceutical firms. Jeff Wichmann Collection.

Circa 1850s, 4 5/8", open pontil, flared lip. A rare medicine from Boston in a light blue. Possibly cleaned with some very faint interior haze. Advertised as early as 1855, Dr. Robbins Tecumseh Rheumatic Drops was one of the many "Indian remedy" patent medicines popular during the mid-19th century, with its name borrowing from the famed Shawnee leader Tecumseh. A great opportunity for any serious medicine collector to acquire a bottle that is rarely available. Jeff Wichmann Collection.

Circa 1840-1860, 6 5/8", open pontil. An extremely rare Wynkoop bottle with a partial label, about 35%. This is one of the two labeled Wynkoops found in an old abandoned Indiana gas station in the 1970s. If you look hard enough, you'll see remnants of the original medicine on the interior.
