The Belfast Soda Soda Water & Ginger Ale Co. San Francisco
Circa 1870s. A classic San Francisco soda in a unique shape. Some interior stain and exterior wear, and maybe a peck or two, but no major issues. A light cleaning would improve this example significantly.

San Rafael Soda Works J Kappenman Propt.
1879-1880. Here is one of Marin County's rarest bottles. Joseph Kappenman ran the San Rafael Soda Works for roughly 1 year before selling it to Sylvain Provencal & Alphone Bresson in 1880. There are roughly six of these sodas known with about three or four in good condition. This example is better than most with a nice aqua tone and numerous champagne bubbles throughout. It's been over 15 years since a San Rafael soda was offered to the public.

Napa Soda B.F. Connolly Natural Mineral Water
1870s. Another tough North Bay soda that doesn't show up often. After being in business with his brother in San Francisco for a number of years, B.F. Connolly branched out on his own and established this soda works in Petaluma in 1873. This example has some nice light whittle and almost no wear. There is a minuscule 1/8" ping on the reverse neck, see photos.

Wood's Napa Soda
Late 1860s. This variant Wood's is scarce, in any color. Overall a solid example with a small patch of interior stain on the inside below the neck. There is a tiny flake off the inside of the lip, and two small bruises, roughly 1/8" each, see photos.

7.5", applied top, pint, smooth base circa 1860s. Beautiful teal green example with light crudity. There is a shallow 1/4" patch of missing glass, see photos.

San Luis Obispo Soda Water Works S. Ceribelli
1875-1881. A top example Ceribelli Soda from the small coastal California town of San Luis Obispo. This example has a great strike, several bubbles, and a rich aqua color. There is an open bubble on the side of the bottle and a small ping above the L in Luis, but overall a great looking bottle that displays well. See photos.

Eastern Cider Co.
Late 1870s. A classic Western soda in a pleasing medium amber with a strong strike. There is a tiny 1/16" fisheye on the edge of the lip, and a few light scuffs (likely from being dug) on the body of the bottle. Otherwise, a very solid example, better than most we've seen.

Pacific Glass Works
Circa 1860s. A product of the famous Pacific Glass Works in San Francisco. These can be about as old as any western blown glass and date from 1863 to about 1867. This example is a strong aqua with some nice light crudity. There is a very shallow surface check on the base and maybe a fleabite or two on the body of the bottle. Some interior stain. Better than many of the known examples. See photos.

Cal Lemonade and Seltzer Water S.F. Cal
Tooled top. A scarce San Francisco hutch soda with an embossed star. This is an extra large size, roughly 40% larger than a regular hutch soda. The bottom has C.L. embossed on it and the top is tooled. There is some grinding and wear near the bottom front of the bottle. See photos.

F.A.L. Merced
Tooled top, circa 1900. Fred A. Lagomarsino ran the Merced Soda Works for a number of years around the turn of the century. This rare crown top soda is a beautiful amethyst shade with some light interior stain. There are two areas of missing glass on the exterior, both about 1" long where glass likely stuck to the mold during manufacturing, as well as a 1/8" chip on the edge of the base, see photos. Merced bottles don't come up very often!

This is the rarer tooled top 'high SF' Dickey mold from the early 1880s with a nearly flat base. These are much rarer than the 'low SF' blue examples and most are in a darker amber color. This is a beautiful problem free example in a butterscotch, almost yellow, color.

Here is the large size aqua Doherty drug store bottle from Sacramento. These bottles are quite early and date to the 1860s. This is a strong example with great whittle and no damage.

9.5", tooled top, 1880s, 9.5". This is a very rare (and large) extract bottle from San Francisco. Only a few of these are believed to exist. Light aqua with a crude stretchy neck.

Applied top, 1870s. Similar in size and form to the McBride's King of Pain, but much rarer. This is a strong example with clean heavy glass, a strong strike, and a big nice side drip.

Garland's Cough Drops
Applied top, circa 1866-1874. Here is a rare Western med that is seldom seen. There are only two other Western medicines with a similar shape, the Eureka Hair Restorer, and the M.A Ragsdale, both in the same late 1860s to early 1870s timeframe. This example has a strong strike, a nice deeper color, and an unusual tapered double roll top.

Twiaba Warranted
Applied top, circa 1871-1873. A rare patent medicine from Elko Nevada with less than 10 examples known. These bottles contained Twiaba, a concoction composed of mostly White Sage from the deserts of Nevada that was promoted as a hair restorer. This example is a rich fire aqua with a nice applied top.
