GVIII-19, Wide Mouth Sunburst Flask believed to have been made at the Keene Marlboro Street Glassworks in New Hampshire circa 1815-1830. 7 3/8" tall, open pontil. Widely considered the most desirable of all the Sunburst form flasks, this iconic bottle is often referred to as the Sunburst ‘snuff jar’. Only about a half-dozen examples are believed to exist in a variety of colors, with a few exhibiting some form of damage. Sunburst flasks rank among the earliest American geometric and historical flasks, dating from approximately 1815 to the early 1830s. An extremely rare, desirable, and important piece of early American glass. This example is a beautiful medium olive green with a large open pontil. It displays a few open onion skin bubbles, potstones, and one partially crushed bubble measuring approximately 1/16", all extremely minor manufacturing characteristics mentioned only for the sake of complete accuracy.
