Fall 2025 Auction (October 03, 2025 7:00 AM PT - October 12, 2025 7:00 PM PT)
Lot # 73
Early Pontiled Pickle Jar - Closed
Description
12.25", iron pontil, rolled lip, 1850s. This is a large and unusual pickle jar that was dug in California Gold Country many years ago. It has fluted shoulders, a ribbed lower body and is full of beautiful whittle and tiny champagne bubbles. There is a small potstone (non-radiated) and a shallow open bubble on the interior. We've seen one or two of these jars in the past, but all the other examples had heavily stained glass and no character. This will make a unique and beautiful addition to any early food bottle collection!
