De Halsey Patente Ink Bottle
Circa 1850s, 3" tall, 3 1/4" diameter, open pontil. A mysterious pontiled inkwell embossed "De Halsey" on one side and "Patente" on the reverse. Very little information appears to be known about this intriguing ink, and even its origin remains uncertain. While the form is consistent with mid-19th century American production, the use of the word "Patente" may suggest a European origin or influence. Regardless of its source, it remains an attractive and unusual embossed inkwell. This example is a pleasing yellow olive color with abundant whittle throughout the glass. Minor wear to the base and a couple of light scuffs to the body.
